Coffee Questions, Answered
Short, practical answers for cups that need a small correction rather than a complete restart.
Why is my iced coffee watery?
Ice melts into the drink, so a standard hot-coffee ratio can taste weak after a few minutes. Brew slightly stronger, cool the coffee before serving or use larger cubes. Do not compensate with extra syrup; sweetness can hide dilution without solving it.
Can I use instant coffee for iced coffee?
Yes. Dissolve it first in a small amount of hot water, then add cold water, milk and ice. Instant coffee is also the usual base for dalgona coffee because it whips with sugar and water.
Should cold brew be diluted?
It depends on the recipe. A concentrate made with a high coffee ratio generally benefits from water, ice or milk. A ready-to-drink cold brew may not. Taste a small portion before deciding.
Is moka pot coffee espresso?
No. A moka pot uses pressure, but far less than an espresso machine. It creates a concentrated coffee that works well in milk drinks, with its own body and aroma.
Why does my French press taste muddy?
Fine grounds and agitation leave more sediment in the cup. Use a coarser grind, press gently and pour the brewed coffee away from the grounds promptly.
What milk is easiest for an iced latte?
Use the milk you enjoy drinking cold. Whole dairy milk has body; oat drinks often bring sweetness. Add the milk after the coffee and ice so you can see the balance clearly.
Can I sweeten coffee after it is cold?
Yes, but sugar dissolves poorly in cold liquid. Use simple syrup, honey thinned with warm water, or dissolve sugar in the hot coffee before chilling.
How long does cold brew keep?
Store it covered in the refrigerator and make only an amount you expect to use soon. Flavor fades with time; clean equipment and cold storage matter.
Do I need a scale?
No, but a scale makes repetition easier. If you use spoons and a measuring jug, write down what worked so you can reproduce it.
